i. Who Finds Their Way Here

Most people come to me having already tried to think their way out.

They’ve read the books, named their patterns, maybe done therapy that handed them tools — and still find themselves back in the same places. What’s missing usually isn’t more insight in the abstract. It’s the experience of slowing down enough to feel what’s actually happening, with someone paying close attention. Much of my New York practice is people who recognize themselves in something like this:

  • Understanding your patterns clearly, and repeating them anyway
  • Moving through life slightly removed from it — capable, but not quite present
  • Feeling unseen, even by people who know you well
  • Wanting to understand yourself, not just cope more efficiently
ii. How I Work

Slower, deeper, and here.

My work is psychoanalytically informed and depth-oriented. Rather than moving quickly to fix or manage, we slow down enough to notice what’s actually happening — in your life, and in the room between us. So much of what shapes us runs underneath awareness: old patterns, protective habits, the ways we once learned to stay safe. Therapy is where those become visible — not through analysis alone, but through the experience of being closely witnessed while you turn your attention inward. Over time, understanding yourself from the inside, rather than managing yourself from the outside, is what lets something actually shift.

iii. Is This the Right Fit?

Clear about who this is — and isn't — for.

Being clear about scope helps the right clients find me, helps referral sources trust the fit, and keeps the work focused.

A good fit for

  • Adults (18+) seeking depth-oriented, insight-focused individual therapy
  • People drawn to understanding themselves, not only managing symptoms
  • Those who’ve done therapy before and want to go deeper this time
  • Anyone willing to slow down and stay curious about what’s underneath

Not the right fit for

  • Children or adolescents (I work with adults only)
  • Anyone in crisis or needing urgent/emergency care
  • Situations needing recent-hospitalization or higher-level care
  • Court-mandated treatment or custody evaluations
  • People looking primarily for quick, short-term, symptom-focused coaching
If you’re in crisis or need urgent help, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or dial 911. This practice is outpatient and not monitored for emergencies.

“I have been working with Nicole for what feels like forever. I can't remember a time before Nicole! Meeting with her has become such a grounding place in my week. She's incredibly understanding and open to what you have to say. And at the same time, she is wonderfully straightforward and practical. She's able to bring all my worries, stressors, and insecurities back to reality and help me see what's truly going on. I highly recommend!”

“Nicole is a fantastic therapist and I can't recommend her highly enough. I've worked with her for over a year now and she's helped me build much better management strategies for the stress of life, health issues, and political uncertainty. Above all, I appreciate Nicole's practicality, and it's probably why I've worked with her so long. She helps me realize what I can and can't control and how to cope with that which is outside my control. She's a great listener and usually each session highlights at least one change in behavior we can try the following week to see how it helps. She also holds me accountable in a loving yet growth oriented way, such as highlighting when I repeat the same actions repeatedly despite talking about change.”

“I want to highlight the two years I've spent working with Nicole as my therapist. Nicole is truly exceptional. When I first came to her, I had a clear set of issues I wanted to address. From the beginning, she created a safe space where I could be vulnerable. What sets Nicole apart is her dedication. She didn't just listen — she went above and beyond every week, researching anything she felt she could deepen her understanding of. Nicole is deeply well-versed in a range of topics and therapeutic approaches. She views every challenge as an opportunity to grow, which, in turn, helped me grow and tackle the issues I was facing.”

“After my first therapist at this practice moved on, I started seeing Nicole on a weekly basis. I appreciate how authentic and honest she is while listening and helping me process the different topics I bring to our weekly sessions. She helps me understand different aspects of my life by pushing me to think beyond the surface and go deeper into my own understanding of self.”

Individual therapy in New York — FAQ

My work is psychoanalytically informed and depth-oriented. Rather than focusing only on symptom management, we slow down to understand the patterns underneath — how they formed, how they repeat, and what changes once you can finally see them clearly.

Structured, skills-based therapy can be genuinely useful, but it often stays closer to the surface. Depth work is slower and less about tools than understanding — the experience of being closely witnessed while you turn your attention inward. It tends to suit people who want to understand themselves, not just cope more efficiently.

Depth-oriented therapy isn’t designed to be brief. Because we’re working with patterns that formed over a long time, it unfolds over months and often years — at a pace that lets real understanding, rather than quick reassurance, take hold.

Most people find it does, at least at first — silence can feel exposing, and the urge to fill it is strong. But that discomfort is worth turning toward rather than smoothing over. The places we’re most resistant to sitting in are usually the places the work most needs to go. Being witnessed there — staying, instead of reaching for the next thing to say — is often where real change begins.

Both — in person at 276 Fifth Avenue, Suite 605, in the Flatiron/NoMad district, and online across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. That said, being in the same room has a quality that’s hard to replicate: something about it makes it easier to feel truly seen. In my experience, most people find depth-oriented work more accessible face-to-face, at least early on while we’re building rapport. Online can absolutely work, but where it’s possible, I tend to recommend beginning in person.
