i. · Who Finds Their Way Here

The struggle usually isn't one argument — it's a pattern that keeps repeating.

People come to this work when something in the way they relate has started to cost them. Often they recognize themselves in patterns like these:

  • Having the same fight on a loop, in this relationship and the ones before it
  • Feeling distant or unseen by someone they’re still deeply committed to
  • Noticing they pull away, shut down, or brace for conflict without quite knowing why
  • Carrying attachment wounds from early life into their adult relationships
  • Wanting to work on the relationship even though their partner isn’t ready to come in
  • Wanting to understand your own patterns before or between relationships
ii. · You Don't Have to Bring a Partner

Relationship work can happen individually, too.

This is often the first question people have, so here’s the honest answer:

Some of the most meaningful relationship work happens one-on-one. Whether your partner isn’t ready to come in, you’re between relationships, or you simply want to understand your own part in the patterns you keep repeating, individual therapy is a powerful place to do it. We focus on how you show up, attach, and protect yourself — the part of the dynamic that’s always within your reach to change. If you’re looking specifically for couples work, you can read more about how I work with partners on my [Couples Therapy page].

Not sure which fits? Start with a private consultation and we’ll figure out the right format together. See my couples therapy page for more on the joint work.
iii. · How I Work

We change the pattern by understanding where it comes from.

Relationship difficulties rarely begin in the present. The way we connect, protect ourselves, and react under stress is often shaped long before our current relationships — and it tends to repeat until we understand it. My work is attachment-informed and psychodynamic: together we trace the origins of your relational patterns, make sense of what they’ve been protecting, and build new ways of relating that don’t keep pulling you back into the same place. For couples, I draw on the Gottman Method, one of the most researched, evidence-based approaches to relationships, to build communication, trust, and repair.

iv. · Is This For You?

Who this work is for.

This work is for adults ready to look honestly at how they relate — to understand their patterns, take responsibility for their part, and build closer, more connected relationships. Much of my practice is high-achieving and high-profile clients who need real discretion while they do this deeply personal work. If that’s where you are, we’ll likely be a good fit.

vii. · Questions

Relationship therapy in New York — FAQ.

Yes — and it’s more powerful than people expect. You are one half of every dynamic you’re in, which means real change is available to you even if your partner never sits on the couch. In individual work, we focus on the part of the pattern that’s yours: how you attach, how you respond to conflict, what you reach for when you feel hurt or unseen. Changing your own role in a dynamic often shifts the entire relationship — and if you’re between relationships, it’s a chance to understand the patterns before you carry them into the next one.

Because these patterns usually took root long before your current relationship. The ways we connect and protect ourselves are shaped early, often as the best adaptation available to us at the time, and we tend to recreate them — unconsciously — long after they’ve stopped serving us. This is why the same conflict can show up with different partners, or why closeness can quietly trigger a pull to retreat. Understanding where a pattern came from, and what it’s been protecting you from, is what finally allows it to loosen its grip.

Not at all. While much of this work centers on romantic partnerships, the way we relate touches everything — family relationships, friendships, and the dynamics we bring into our working lives. If you find yourself struggling with closeness, conflict, or boundaries across more than one area of your life, that’s often a sign the work belongs at the level of the pattern itself, not just one relationship.

It’s rarely cleanly one or the other, and that question itself is often part of what keeps people stuck. Therapy gives you a space to see the dynamic clearly — to separate what belongs to you, what belongs to your partner, and what belongs to the pattern the two of you create together. From that clearer vantage point, the right way forward — whether that’s repair, change, or honest reflection about the relationship’s future — tends to become far more visible.

Individual relationship work focuses on you — your attachment style, your patterns, and how you show up in connection — and it can happen whether or not you’re currently partnered. Couples work brings both partners into the room to change the dynamic between you in real time, and for that I use the structured, evidence-based Gottman Method. Many people do both at different points. If you’re specifically seeking couples therapy, my [Couples Therapy page] describes that process in detail.

If the same pattern keeps showing up, let's understand it together.
