i. · Who Finds Their Way Here
Depression doesn't always look like sadness.
For high-functioning people, it often looks like still showing up — still delivering — while something underneath has gone flat, heavy, or numb. Much of my New York practice is people who recognize themselves in patterns like these:
• Adults who function well on the outside but feel empty or exhausted underneath
• High achievers who’ve lost interest in things that used to matter
• People running on willpower because stopping feels impossible
• Those who feel they have ‘no reason’ to be depressed — and judge themselves for it

ii. · When It's More Than a Rough Patch
Signs it may be depression, not just a hard stretch.
Everyone has low weeks. Depression tends to be heavier, longer, and harder to shift on your own. Some of the patterns worth paying attention to:
The flatness lingers
Low, empty, or numb most of the day, most days, for two weeks or more — not lifting the way an ordinary bad mood does.
Things stop mattering
Losing interest or pleasure in work, people, or activities you used to care about.
The body carries it
Exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix, changes in appetite or sleep, or a sense of moving through molasses.
The mind turns on you
Harsh self-criticism, guilt, or a persistent sense of not being enough — often loudest in high achievers.
Focus frays
Trouble concentrating, deciding, or remembering, even on things that used to be easy.
Hope gets thin
A creeping sense that things won’t change. If you’re having thoughts of death or suicide, please reach out now — see below.
iii. · How I Work
Grounded in research. Honest in the room.
My work with depression draws on evidence-based methods — Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and behavioral activation, supported by DBT skills for the emotional weight depression carries. We work on the thoughts and patterns that keep you stuck, and on gently rebuilding the momentum depression drains away. But method is only half of it. People stay with me because I’m willing to say what I’m noticing and hold them, gently, to the small changes that move things.
As a licensed therapist, I provide psychotherapy — not medication. If your depression may benefit from medication, I’ll work alongside your physician or psychiatrist, or help you find one.
iv. · Is This For You?
Who this work is for.
This work is for adults ready to understand and shift a depression that’s been weighing on them — including high-functioning people who look fine on the outside and feel far from it underneath. Much of my practice is visible, high-profile clients who need genuine discretion while they do this quietly. If that’s where you are, we’ll likely be a good fit.
v. · In Their Words
From people I've worked with.
Anonymized and shared with permission, out of respect for privacy.
I didn't even realize how long I'd been running on empty until she named it. For the first time in years, things started to feel lighter.
